Bookbinding Hard-backed Series
We have just completed a 5-week series of classes preparing four different bok structures and a slipcase in which to present them. Great results. This group was interviewed by Leigh Chambers for 105FM's Bookmark programme which you can catch up with here. Bookbinding interview starts at about 36.15mins.
A local Brownie group had great fun making hard-bound notebooks for Father's Day. The easiest way to get glue-y paper off the tables was to encourage scrunching and chucking - great fun!
"I am so impressed with the work they produced, all thanks to your fantastic tuition. Thank you so much for the prep you did for the books...lucky students:)"
Journal Binding Class, May 7 (next class Sept 17)
Hugely productive class with particularly creative book titles, all with their own interesting and/or amusing relevance!
"I was given a place on the journal binding course as a present and enjoyed every moment - it was a real pleasure to spend the day with such a delightful group of people learning a new skill and having something to show for my efforts that I can use for years to come. I couldn't be happier with my book and have already started writing in it, and I look forward to trying to make more books at home. I'd recommend these classes to anyone - and when I get the time, I'll definitely be back for another."
Slipcase and Box Making, April 30 (next class Solander Box Aug 13 and Slipcase and Box Making, Nov 5 tbc)
Some of the 6 slipcases and 6 boxes made by participants on a very busy Saturday!
'a fascinating class on slip case and box making'
'It was an amazing experience. I feel that I learned an incredible amount in such a short time – just enough to see that there is still so much to learn!
Friends and family are very impressed with my box and case, whose qualities (although clearly needing better practice on corners!) reflect your detailed guidance.'
Our 5-week series began on April 28 and continues each Thursday evening until the end of May at which time everyone will have produced a collection similar to this - (we have one space left if you would like to join us for any individual class)
Coptic Binding at Art Van Go, Knebworth
"Thanks for a fantastic class. I am already stitching a book that was half done to consolidate the stitching."
"At Art Van Go today and told Kevin how much I enjoyed your workshop and some more next year would be great!"
"Do hope you will be doing more courses at AVG I really enjoyed it and would love to learn more."
"I have had fantastic feedback about the workshop - thank you so much for being part of our programme."
Japanese Stab Bound Album
"I am so pleased with the photograph album and I've been showing it to several friends today who were amazed that it was home-made and are now keen to come on a course, too.
Was a fantastic day and thrilled with the book."
Make a Book for Cambridge Literary Festival at ArtSpace on Thursday, April 7
“I just wanted to thank you again for the excellent workshop that I attended with you last week as part of the Cambridge Literary Festival - I don't think I've been to such a well organised, neat and tidy workshop before, with fabulous homemade cakes also.”
“I just wanted to thank you for the most amazing morning yesterday. I loved every minute. It was so inspiring and I was thrilled with my very first book. The morning made such an impression on me and I have been thinking of making books ever since. I even woke up in the night itching to make another one!! Your teaching was so clear and I can't believe how professional my book looks. Thank you thank you. The best morning I have had for a long time.”
" wanted to say how really much we enjoyed the short book binding course with you. It was excellent. We are so proud of our little books and have been showing them off to our friends. Even the children were quite impressed and that takes some doing, so you can imagine how pleased we were."
